San Francisco, CA (NursingSalary.org)- If you are not already aware, there has been a huge shortage of nurses expected within the next decade. This is not the best of news, because if there is a shortage of nurses, then that means that patients will not receive the best care. This also means that many patients will be left untreated, and several people will be unhappy. With all that said, the answer will not be to increase the current nurse’s responsibilities and put more stress on them. That would not work at all. Thankfully, there have been more students entering nursing schools this year which will hopefully help the cause.
Over the past few years, you may have heard that nursing went into a recession for demand of workers. There were several people going into nursing degrees which meant that a lot of jobs were being filled. This year, however, changed almost everything. It all started with the health care reform bill that will most likely give everyone free health insurance. This means that everyone will get to go to the doctor’s office whenever they would like to. Because of this, more nurses will also be in demand. Many nurses of today can remember back in college, before they even graduated, that they would have several job offers for whenever they graduated. This was obviously very exciting news to have a great job offer like that in their hands before they even got their diploma. Soon after that though, nurses found it very difficult to get jobs. Some did of course, but it was not as common as it used to be.
As you can see, nursing definitely has a huge upside in the future of American jobs. As the other job titles are declining in demand, nursing jobs are going up in demand. Even today, there are several jobs that need to be filled. Not too long ago, there were too many nurses and not enough spots to fill those spots. It really is interesting how things can change so fast. To be honest, I do not even see things changing for quite some time. Health is something that everyone will need, so a nursing degree should remain in high demand for a long time. If you are looking to enter a nursing program, you can feel good about receiving a good paying job upon graduation.
