SIMI Valley, CA (NursingSalary.org) – Dominic Limpin is a Filipino traveling nurse who helps heal dialysis patients heal by singing to them. In New York, he was a member of the church choir and one of the singers in the Dessoff Choirs. The Dessoff Choir also performed with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
After the 9/11 terrorist attack, Limpin suffered post-traumatic stress syndrome; he would have nightmares everyday and could not cope up with the grim reality of 9/11. Thereafter, the doctors in New York advised him to leave the city to recuperate. Soon after he found employment with a traveling nurse company and decided to use his singing talents to help patients, and since then, he has helped hundreds of people heal with his singing qualities.
Dominic Limpin is fondly dubbed as the “traveling singing nurse”. In the last decade of his service, he has never “encounter(ed) any patient, no matter how sick they are or grouchy, who doesn’t like singing”. First, he healed his own post-traumatic stress syndrome and now he heals patients through his music. Music transcends culture and touches the inner soul of people.
Limpin spends around 3 months to a year in one place and in the last few years; he has traveled to at least 15 states and impressed people with his unique talent. On an average he draws around USD 120,000 annually plus expenses, which is more than what a hospital registered nurse draws.
In an exclusive interview with the Asian Journal, Limpin talked about his unique healing style. Many people may find this story unbelievable but take the story of Joyce Nyland. Joyce had few months to live, she was on dialysis and doctors had lost all hope. Joyce was depressed and she confessed her innermost feelings to the nurse who took care of her thrice a week.
Joyce felt she was dying. Nurse Dominic Limpin listened sympathetically to her problems and began to instill hope in Joyce. He would sing to her during treatment hours and tell her to have faith in God. Dominic has a powerful yet pleasant voice and his songs filled the room with hope and peace, and miraculously, Joyce began to respond to the treatment. In few weeks, Joyce recovered and discharged from the hospital.
When KVLY News 11, the NBC local channel in North Dakota, came to know about the story, they interviewed Limpin and aired the segment in February 2007. Since then, Dominic Limpin has been in the limelight for his exceptional healing power through music.
